Chuck’s Walk Across America
After a year and a half of planning, the walk will begin on October 1st, 2017, starting in Oceanside, California and culminating in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The walk will be a labor of love.
It was an epiphany moment for Chuck Woolaver when the idea of walking across the country first hit him. Chuck had been diagnosed with coronary artery disease in February of 2015, and was particularly afflicted in his legs. Severe arterial blockage prevented Chuck from walking any distance over 100 yards without intense cramping and pain. That is what makes this ambitious project truly amazing.
Upon completing several procedures to regain blood flow to the legs, Chuck’s cardiologist advised him to walk. Walk, walk, walk is exactly what he said, and Chuck took heed to this advice. It was on a winter day, when Chuck was walking in a heavy snowstorm, that the idea of walking cross country landed firmly and squarely on his mind. What Chuck initially described as a “harebrained idea”, is now becoming a reality. It couldn’t happen without the help of many people dedicated to the cause of attacking heart disease head on.
The long term goal is to bring more attention to heart disease, particularly how it can be avoided by living a more heart healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the goals of Walk For The Beat are to assist others who have amassed medical bills due to heart disease, and to provide funding for heart related research.
During the walk, Chuck will be providing information on CPR as well as providing healthy living tips to schools across the country. We are currently working on a marketing campaign to get the message out and to coordinate dates and times that Chuck will be in particular cities.
Lastly, Walk For The Beat is looking for sponsors. There are many products and services that go hand in hand with a project such as this 3,000 mile walk. Sponsorship packages are available. It starts with the heart!
